- 12th October 202512th October 2025Talk The Talk Year 7 WorkshopTalk The Talk Year 7 WorkshopExpert trainers from Talk The Talk visited the school on Monday 22nd September 2025 to work with Year 7 students.Talk The Talk’s mission is to develop students’ oracy skills and communication confidence to support positive interaction in all life situations and improved social outcomes.Talk The Talk has trained over 115,000 students to be confident communicators across England and Wales since they began in 2013.Talk About Transition uses oracy-based activities and strategies to help students develop greater self-confidence and resilience. Delivered as a half day workshop and packed full of engaging activities to promote students’ confidence, self‑esteem and help build relationships with their new peers, Talk About Transition supports students in a successful transition from primary to secondary school.Transition to secondary school involves changes that can be both exciting and a cause of concern to students. Successful transition is vital to the development of students’ self-confidence, self-esteem and academic competence. Moving on from the safe haven of primary school - one classroom and often one teacher - to a much larger school and the feeling of being a ‘small fish in a large pond’ can cause worry and anxiety. Our programme embraces this change and allows students to talk about their concerns and how to overcome them – but also the fantastic opportunities that await them – and how best to embrace these.Talk The TalkThese Talk About Transition workshops are part funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. Sir Jack Petchey CBE created the Jack Petchey Foundation to inspire young people and recognise the amazing contributions they make to society. To do this, the Foundation has invested over £143m in programmes that benefit young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex.Learn more about Talk The Talk here:www.talkthetalkuk.org and the Jack Petchey Foundation here: www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.ukSee what teachers are saying about us on X.

- 10th January 202410th January 2024Read For GoodRead For GoodThe Library had a sponsored read event for the charity Read for Good. This charity raises money for children to access reading books during their time in a children's hospital. The students gathered all their resources and got working on raising as much as they could. We raised a total of £618 for charity just simply by reading! As a thank you incentive, we've been awarded £120 in book vouchers to spend on the library. To get the competitive juices flowing, each form was competing to raise the most money. The winners were 9F and their prize was to visit the Malorie Blackman exhibition at the British Library. 9F thoroughly enjoyed the trip and learned a lot about Malorie Blackman and the many struggles she faced as an author. A special thanks to the family and friends that helped our students raise money.
- 18th October 202318th October 2023Jack Patchey's 'Speak Out' ChallengeJack Patchey's 'Speak Out' ChallengeJack Petchey visited the school to share their well-known 'Speak Out' Challenge. 29 Year 10 students were chosen to take part. From the very beginning of the session, students were ready to engage. The aim of the session was to help students build their confidence in public speaking. The theme of the workshop was courage and confidence. Students were tasked with a range of activities that highlighted the importance of allowing one's self to be courageous and then taking action. Some activities got the students to do things they've never done before - pretend to be amoebas, play 'rock-paper-scissors' as chickens, and pretend to be politicians using only the words "abba dabba". It was a joy to witness!Thank you to Jack Petchey for this wonderful opportunity.
